Fibonacci Series and Levels of Consciousness

The Fibonacci series is a sequence of numbers that starts with 0 and 1, and each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two. For example, the first ten numbers of the Fibonacci series are: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34.

The Fibonacci series has many interesting properties and applications in mathematics, nature, art, and science. The levels of consciousness are a way of describing the different states of awareness that humans can experience. There are many models and theories that attempt to explain the levels of consciousness, but one of the most popular and influential ones is the spiral dynamics model. The spiral dynamics model was developed by Don Beck and Chris Cowan, based on the work of Clare Graves. It proposes that human consciousness evolves through eight stages or levels, each with its own worldview, values, and behaviors. The levels are color-coded and arranged in a spiral shape, indicating that each level transcends and includes the previous ones.

The eight levels of consciousness in the spiral dynamics model are:

- Beige: The level of survival instincts and basic needs. This level is driven by biological impulses and sensory stimuli. It is characteristic of newborns, animals, and people in extreme conditions.
- Purple: The level of tribal identity and magical thinking. This level is driven by belonging, loyalty, and superstition. It is characteristic of ancient cultures, families, gangs, and sports teams.
- Red: The level of power and domination. This level is driven by ego, pride, and fear. It is characteristic of dictators, tyrants, warriors, and rebels.
- Blue: The level of order and authority. This level is driven by rules, morality, and tradition. It is characteristic of religious institutions, governments, corporations, and schools.
- Orange: The level of achievement and innovation. This level is driven by rationality, competition, and progress. It is characteristic of modern science, technology, business, and media.
- Green: The level of harmony and empathy. This level is driven by feelings, relationships, and equality. It is characteristic of humanistic movements, environmentalism, social justice, and spirituality.
- Yellow: The level of integration and complexity. This level is driven by systems thinking, creativity, and diversity. It is characteristic of holistic thinkers, visionaries, innovators, and leaders.
- Turquoise: The level of transcendence and unity. This level is driven by intuition, wisdom, and compassion. It is characteristic of mystics, sages, healers, and enlightened beings.

Now you may be wondering: what does this have to do with the Fibonacci series?

The answer lies in the ratio between consecutive numbers in the Fibonacci series. As the series progresses, the ratio approaches a constant value known as the golden ratio or phi (φ), which is approximately equal to 1.618. The golden ratio has many remarkable properties and appearances in mathematics, nature, art, and science. It is considered to be an ideal proportion for beauty, harmony, and balance. The golden ratio also has a connection to the levels of consciousness in the spiral dynamics model. If we assign each level a numerical value corresponding to its position in the spiral, we can calculate the ratio between consecutive levels.
For example,
the ratio between beige (1) and purple (2) is 2/1 = 2, the ratio between purple (2) and red (3) is 3/2 = 1.5, the ratio between red (3) and blue (4) is 4/3 = 1.333, and so on.
As we move up the spiral, the ratio between consecutive levels gets closer and closer to the golden ratio (φ).
For example, the ratio between green (6) and yellow (7) is 7/6 = 1.167, the ratio between yellow (7) and turquoise (8) is 8/7 = 1.143, and so on.
This suggests that as human consciousness evolves, it becomes more aligned with the golden ratio, which represents beauty, harmony, and balance. In other words, the Fibonacci series and the levels of consciousness are both expressions of the same underlying principle: the principle of growth, expansion, and integration. This principle can be seen as a universal law that governs all forms of life and creation. By understanding this principle, we can gain insight into ourselves and our potential as conscious beings. We can also appreciate the beauty and harmony of nature and art that reflect this principle. We can use this understanding to create a better world in which all beings can live in balance and peace.
